D. Joseph Burbacher, FCAS, MAAA

D. Joseph Burbacher is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) and a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA). Joe holds a BS in Mathematics from Duke University, with more than twenty five years of actuarial experience in the property & casualty insurance industry.

At Taylor & Mulder Inc., Mr. Burbacher conducts rate filing reviews of personal and commercial insurance lines, covering the spectrum of traditional to more advanced ratemaking techniques, including generalized linear and catastrophe models. Additionally, Mr. Burbacher performs reserve analyses for clients’ liabilities, on gross, direct, and net of reinsurance bases.

Prior to joining Taylor & Mulder, Inc., Mr. Burbacher worked in a variety of property/casualty actuarial roles. Most of his career was at a national insurance company, where he performed/managed a large number of pricing and reserving reviews covering nearly all lines of business. He was the lead actuary on numerous rate and rule filings across dozens of states and has experience working with regulators across all facets of the filing process. Mr. Burbacher built and oversaw cash flow, underwriting result, and capital adequacy projection models at the companywide and segment levels. He also was involved in economic capital modeling and helped establish the Company’s first ORSA process. Additionally, Mr. Burbacher has participated in balance sheet and income statement analysis, loss planning, and M&A work.

Mr. Burbacher has also managed the personal property product and pricing team for a large national insurance company and also served as the personal property pricing manager for a large region.

Mr. Burbacher’s broad experience provides flexibility to Taylor & Mulder, Inc., and he anticipates participating in a wide array of projects going forward, including financial examinations and other projects outside the realm of traditional reserving and pricing.
